  • It is indeed a great novel. I also heard this interview on NPR. Thank you for posting this.

  • Would I be rude if I disagreed with you? No, I would not. I heard the Patton Oswalt piece on NPR early in the day and found it annoying. Why?

Everyone has been assigned the book 'Moby Dick' in school. Everyone has failed to finish it. The characters are vivid enough, but the whale-technology descriptions are just crushingly boring.

And what do we take away?

“Call me Ishmael ... grim about the mouth, damp, drizzly November in my soul, blah blah blah, coffin warehouses, ... requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from knocking people's hats off ... "

Patton, everybody knows this. Everybody knows this ALONE. Say something we don't know.

  • I read Moby Dick several years ago as an adult and found the book to be seven times more fascinating than I did when I was forced to read it in school.
I wrote a D&D adventure for a gaming convention based on Moby Dick and The Simpsons. It was a big hit. The book isn't for everybody though, it does have its dull moments especially if you aren't into history, especially the history of whaling.

  • I never read Moby Dick.

  • I understand you were captivated in listening this interview while driving .
I remember when for my job I was driving at night and it was so peaceful to listen at the radio an excellent interview . Paradoxally I was not distracted in my driving.

    In friendship
    Michel
