New computer
Thanks to the end of Microsoft's support for Windows XP, I was forced to buy a new 'puter.
It's installed and working fine. The new one, that is. It uses Windows 8.1, I think, but I can configure the desktop to look like Windows 7 so that I can use the damn thing. Paying for it is next on the agenda.
Why do I always feel broke?

At work we just had to install windows 7 on all the computers using XP - they work fine and it wasn't expensive to do... just saying. You could probably just install a new operating system on the old one and then have a back up!
New computers do drain the $$$ bank!
I know you will enjoy your new toy!
HUGS!!!
I have windows 8.1 and it works like windows 7. which I believe is very good. I have no complaints.
My XP crashed in June of last year, so I, or rather, my husband, bought me a new computer, windows 8, upgraded it to 8.1 a month later, when windows 8.1 came out...Free upgrade....
It all depends on where you bought you puter at...If we had gone to Eke's or Office Depot, or even Best Buy, it would have caused us in the thousands....We went to our local WalMart....It cost in the 100's, but so close to the thousand, we were in shock....But... It's all paid for now....We got it on our credit card, and took us a couple of months to pay it off, but we got it done....
A word of advice....If you're using on line protection, like advantage, or any other, stop!! Use the protection through who ever you get your on line protection through....
I was using the on line protection, advantage, and when I decided to quit using it, and go through another company....Well, when I tried to drop the advantage, my computer crashed.....Now I go through my on line service provider.....
"Use the protection through who ever you get your on line protection through…."
This should have been, "Use the protection through who ever you get your on line service through."
At the office they just upgraded us from XP to Windows 7. My laptop at home has Windows 7 and I've been very happy with it. Haven't tried 8 but from what I hear it's not an improvement. I don't know why they think they have to change menus every time they upgrade the system.
@ Roadkill....
You're right....Windows 7 and windows 8, are basically the same, except windows 8 also comes in touch screen.....Meaning no mouse, just touch the screen window, where you want to go, and you're there...
Windows 8 was upgraded to windows 8.1 shortly after....My computer is 8.1....
