Explaining The Donald
To mention his last name would be against my religion, but I just read a fascinating article at Politico.com by Matthew MacWilliams and want to share it.
I learned a new word today: authoritarianism. I still don't know what it means exactly, but it seems that the best predictor of whether an individual supports The Donald for president of the U.S. is whether that person is or is not an authoritarian. If yes, then he's likely to be a supporter. Here's a key paragraph from the article I just read:
"These [poll] questions pertain to child-rearing: whether it is more important for the voter to have a child who is respectful or independent; obedient or self-reliant; well-behaved or considerate; and well-mannered or curious. Respondents who pick the first option in each of these questions are strongly authoritarian."

I'm not sure whether the above link works, or what it leads you to. Here's where I read the article:

Obviously, you're directed to the same place, either way.

I'll be voting for the Democratic nominee, regardless. (If the GOP nominates John Kasich, I might waver, but I'll probably still prefer Hillary or Bernie.) Incidentally, I looked at the poll questions, and I am as anti-authoritarian as you can get. Not surprising, in view of how I view The Donald. Apparently, there are a lot of authoritarians in this country. Scary.

Very scary. I'm feeling the Bern...
A lot of people like Trump because he isn't afraid to speak his mind. I tell them, it's one thing to speak your mind. It's something else to speak an empty mind.
I'm rooting for Bernie. IF Hillary wins the nomination I'll begrudgingly vote for her as the lesser of all evils.
I don't know if you remember but I used to be a Right Wing Conservative when I was posting on Xanga. Not anymore! I'm a bleeding heart, tree hugging Liberal. I look at the Right today and I'm embarrassed I was ever on that side. I was young, that's my only excuse.
I so, so, so, think Kasich is the best man for the job, and am annoyed that he hasn't gotten more attention.
This whole election is making me crazy. Things are looking quite dire for this country and I am so ready for Christ to come.
I find it hard to even imagine a more loathsome fool. As if my 40 years in the Untied Snakes was just a deluded dream about essential good sense and stability. For a horrible joke like Tr*mp to even be considered is by itself both a wake-up call and a knock-out blow to the solar plexus. My theory, if anyone cares, is that the social-network banal echo-chamber, feeding into the right's know-nuttin propensity... and, disturbingly, the 'big-lie' effect of watching the Islamics poop on all Western values and somehow thinking 'well, they may have a point?' is subtly corroding all.
You and I have seen many decades, from 'Casablanca' to "Gidget does Malibu" ; time to leave the theatre?
@jsolberg: My feeling all along has been that The Donald has just been kidding. That he never intended to have a successful run to the presidency. It's only his ego that has convinced him he's getting within reach. I continue to be confident that the Dems will rev up a ground game that will keep him out of the White House. Unless it turns out that he really was kidding the whole time. In which case, the Dems still better come up with a good ground game, because we don't need any of those other candidates from the GOP, either.
An article from an Israeli writer I respect: Enjoy/
